World News@lemmy.world•EU to Bet on Electrification to Avert Recurring Energy CrisesEnglish
5·21 hours agoChina has got that market cornered now. German carmakers squandered any advantage they might have initially held
Yes, because they were good at building ICE cars and wanted to squeeze as much profit out of it as possible instead of investing in transition into EV. They still look at the next quarter instead of the next decade. So yeah, shortsighted.

World News@lemmy.world•EU to Bet on Electrification to Avert Recurring Energy CrisesEnglish
5·1 day agoThey will “float some measures”. We’ll see what Germany and France will say. So far Germany is still pushing hard for ICE cars because they are to shortsighted to invest in EVs and France is blocking a lot of developments so they can export electricity from their nuclear plants to other countries.

politics @lemmy.world•JUST IN: House Democrats File Bill to Form 25th Amendment Commission to Assess Trump’s Mental Fitness
31·2 days agoNo, the optics here are very important. If they get rid of a sitting president during the next elections democrats will say “the last guy they nominated was so bad they had to get rid of him, you can’t trust them”. This damages the brand and they don’t want that. They always have to project confidence and never admit mistakes. It was the same with Biden. People around him new for a very long time that he was unfit for office but were hiding it for as long as they could. Republicans will do the same but Trump doesn’t have to do any debates. He just has to wave at people from a distance and sign papers.

politics @lemmy.world•Orbán’s defeat holds lessons for US: ‘Autocrats may rise, but are not invincible’
3·2 days agoMost people in Europe understand what dictatorship is and don’t like the idea so people like Orban have to move slowly and operate as illiberal democracy. Blatantly ignoring the constitution would cause mass protests and some reaction from the EU and they try to avoid it.
Only if you have fixed interest rate which a lot of people don’t have.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Broke Its Promise to Me. Now ICE Has My Data.English
12·2 days agoYou need to install GrapheneOS, /e/, iode or Lineage OS (people will tell you only Graphene OS is truly private but that’s not true). After that simply never log in with your google account. Use only apps that don’t require google account. Aurora is a Play Store client that works without google account.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Broke Its Promise to Me. Now ICE Has My Data.English
5·2 days agoWhy do you say that? This story doesn’t say anything about sanboxed play services. If you’re using actual google account even with sandobxed play services you’re obviously handing over your data to Google. If you’re not logged in how using sandboxed play services a problem?
Yes they are but SID is the funniest one :)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Y'all ever have intrusive thoughts about accidentally dropping stuff in storm drains? (particulary when you have your phone out) And like if that happens, wtf is someone supposed to do?
8·2 days agoOr like the gap in the elevator?
A friend of mine managed to drop car keys there so yes, it actually happens.
He managed to get it out with some stick or something. So attach some sort of key chain to your phone case. At least there will be something to grab it by. And carry a string with a hook with you.

I think good IQ tests take “familiarity with logic puzzles” into account. They try to take everything in to account. When I was doing research on working memory we were using very simple tests that relied heavily on working memory and correlated with IQ tests well. Those test didn’t use any type of logic puzzles white people are more familiar with. IQ is not a perfect score but it was known for a very long time that comparing people from different cultures and background is very difficult if at all possible. This doesn’t mean that IQ tests can’t be used to compare people with similar backgrounds and that you can’t develop better, culturally neutral tests.
